A1C reduction with Mounjaro 15 mg at 40 weeks in SURPASS-2, in adults with type 2 diabetes

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) was studied in the SURPASS trials for blood-sugar (A1C) control in adults with type 2 diabetes, which is its FDA-approved use. In SURPASS-2, A1C fell by 2.01, 2.24 and 2.30 percentage points at 5, 10 and 15 mg, versus 1.86 with semaglutide 1 mg. Mounjaro is not FDA-approved for weight loss.

For weight management, the FDA-approved tirzepatide product is Zepbound, which produced a 20.9% average reduction in body weight at the 15 mg dose at 72 weeks in the SURMOUNT-1 trial. Individual results vary.
